Opinions on C30 D3

Thinking of getting a Volvo again after a year in a Saab and just wondering what others think of this as my prospective purchase?

I've never had a D3 engine before, are they any good? My previous C30 was a 2.0 diesel PSA unit whereas I also had the 1.8 petrol in the past. Am I right in thinking the D3 is a Volvo unit?

Any other issues I should look for at this age/mileage?

Yes, the D3 is a 5 cylinder Volvo engine, basically a detuned D4. Both of these are based on the D5 with a shorter stroke.

I have the D5 in my V50 but others report good things about the D3 and D4.

Love my D3 (in a V60)

I came from a D5 in a V50. My D3 was the 136bhp which felt strangled. Torquey low end but was held back up the rev range. I managed to get a brilliant deal on a polestar upgrade to 163bhp which opened it up nicely.

Obviously the C30 D3 will be 150bhp.

Great sounding engine. Good on fuel. Proper Volvo engine.

Make sure that one you are looking at has had its cambelt done.

I bought my V60 with 128k on it..... And it hadn't been done... Luckily I am anal about these things and swiftly had it done.
