Do I have to change the water pump every time? Last edited by JohnL; Jun 15th, 2016 at 22:35. |

Had a look at the d24 manual ... and though the procedure is detailed the interval is not.
5 years /50k cannot be too far out. As important as when yours was last done would be what belt was used - if Volvo or Gates that would be reassuring. As for the water pump the same would apply, if a Volvo pump was used at every second belt change would be reasonable. Volvo wps are no longer available and there are cheaply manufactured pumps (plastic impellers, poor casting etc) which should be avoided, again gates or graf are of decent quality. The other components to be considered are the tensioner and idler pulley. It has been awhile since I last did the lot (!) and I do not know which parts are still available from Volvo, should the answer be none then I would get a Gates kit as advertised on an auction site, having ascertained first exactly what was in it. If you are in any doubt as to when it was last done or what parts were used it might be safest to change everything... jor

The Gen Volvo coolant is probably worth getting (Rufe the Swansea FRF Volvo dealer with forum discount code is cheap by phone), or Liqui Moly oil finder listed coolant.
