740 GLE 2.3 1989 Auto
1989 F-reg 740 GLE 2.3 Auto Saloon - located south-west Wiltshire
Silver paintwork with Green velour plush trim. 97,600 miles. MOT until November 2016. Full service history with 2 former keepers, all volvo main dealer stamps. Cambelt was changed in 2011 @ 89,000 miles by Volvo dealer. Electric windows & sunroof. Radio/cassette player. Plastic Volvo floortrays. Recent battery. Excellent condition, the boot area is spotless. Paintwork is very good all around. Extremely reluctant sale of this car but I am loosing some of my covered storage and have a restoration project that is (predictably - inevitably) taking more time, effort and money than I anticipated. I intended to get the rear arches repaired professionally and make this a real beauty. Bad points *Rear arches are corroded, only area on the whole car. *Very distant knocking from front suspension - I believe it could be a tired bush/es somewhere. *Headlining top-layer has come away in a few places. The headlining itself is not sagging and I wanted to adhere it back to the other layers but have not got round to doing it - not a job to rush. **Good points** Apart from the rear arches the body work is 9.5/10 with excellent front and rear plastic bumpers. Interior is in excellent condition. Spare wheel, jack and toolkit all present and correct. Drives beautifully, very tight feels like a much younger car. Auto gearbox shifts perfectly. Engine bay is very clean with all factory parts present including the negative battery terminal cover. Sailed through its last two MOTs with no advisories! Any test/inspection welcome. I guarantee anyone who views this car will fall in love with it as I did. It would not take much to turn this into time-warp condition but sadly I am not the one to do it, although I really don't want to let it go! Pictures to follow tomorrow. Please call 07468 562326. If I cannot answer please leave a voicemail or text message and I will get back to you. Thank you. £899 ovno to VOC members - hope to see it at future shows!

This car is really really clean. Apologies for the poor photos, I had to move fast as it had briefly paused raining. I will upload better photographs when it stops raining.

Thats a fantastic car mate. I have just bought two more cars (Fords, not Volvo's; Mondeo 2.5 V6 Ghia X and a Focus 2.0 Ghia) otherwise I would be very interested. Good luck with the sale...its a steal at that price.

Not sure it's a steal, but 744s are becoming rarer as years go by (although prices are yet to rise significantly), a timewarp car this cannot be - the mileage is too high for starters.
Replacing the headling in a 744 is a very time-consuming job and puts off many: as for the wheelarches; that will mean a repaint of the rear quarters which if done properly will not be cheap. Nice to see some provenance. Just a few thoughts. Jon N.B some might want to know if the cambelt has been replaced. Green seats they are not, they're grey, fading over the years results in a greenish tint. Last edited by tt82; Aug 19th, 2017 at 07:01. Reason: Irrelevant Statement. |
