Default Remote Start retrofit MY12

I have seen over on the SwedeSpeed forum that a remote start package can now be retrofitted to certain Volvo models by authorised Volvo dealers. Price appears to be around the $400/$500 range.
Is this something that is just specific to the US market or may it be applicable to the UK market?
A quick google seems to take me to the US site.

I also noticed this:

Wondered if there was a European equivalent.

It gets cold up here in the North East and something like remote starting would be really cool.

If that can work then why do I have to depress the clutch at the moment to start the car? Great idea to get the car started and defrost the windscreen without leaving your warm home though. Interesting one.

We might also have the added complication of working on Automatics only, which would rule me out unfortunately.

Seems to be a bouyant after market demand though looking through Google, shame they all seem to be US based.

is it not illegal to have a car running on a public road without a driver controlling it within the UK?

If I am correct it would mean that it could work for those of us that have private drives, not for anyone that uses a public road or other space

Excellent idea if it can be retrofitted in the UK though

Not available over here on any cars for that reason, another potential issue is your insurance.

Hmmm, I think that would prevent anyone this side of the pond having it installed

I have been told before that Volvo will only install updates/additions that re approved for the market that the car was built for, hence a UK spec may not be permitted to have this installed.

I wonder, do you get an additional remote control, otherwise how do you start it?
