Default V60 2014 d4 vea engine stutter and reduced performance

Hi All

Just joined the problematic d4 vea engine club. Just picked it up from a used car dealer and it went into reduced performance within around 60 miles, and has a pronounced stutter, especially when cold, at around 1500-2000 revs and not very smooth generally. They had changed the O2 sensors prior to sale, so unlikely to be these, so is the next likely culprit the EGR/EGR cooler?

Just wondering whether to get a main dealer diagnostic done before I go to the dealer, I have already logged the fault with them.

Are Volvo still doing any goodwill on fixing the EGR problems?

Took a while to find locally, so would like to keep if it is fixable.

Do dealers have a fixed price for the diagnostic? I understand there is also a compression test involved, does this mean possible valve damage?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Have you got the tortoise symbol on the dash? When I got the tortoise on my FWD XC60 it turned out to be caused by a blocked EMAP pipe.

Needs a diagnostic to determine cause - could be EGR but could also be something else.

Standard Volvo dealer diagnostic is £100 + VAT. I'd see if the dealer you purchased from will cover repair cost.

If the car is just picked up from a dealer, then there is a legal requirement for the car to be in a useable condition which this one appears not to be. Just return it to the dealer and tell him to fix it.

I have the intermittent Tortoise display, and a bad stutter when cold just at the indicated gear change point, which probably isn't doing the DMF any favors.

They are being ok about it, i'm in the 14 day window to hand it back, but its a nice car in a decent condition, so if i can get them to fix it I would like to keep it. Think I would swallow the £100 just to get a Volvo diagnostic done rather than their own odb2 led diagnosis, which has already led them to fit 02 sensors that it probably didn't need.

Fair enough, you’ve found a keeper. Don’t waste anytime in getting a diagnostic done. Present the results to the dealer and ask that it’s fixed .
I’m sure there will be far more knowledgable people on the site who will know the legal side of things, and can give better advise than me.
Bear in mind, the dealer has already sold you a vehicle that has problems, do you trust him to do the repairs? He’s given you 14days to change your mind and give it back, presented with a potential bill of many oo’s, I hope he doesn’t just offer you a refund.
Google “ buying a secondhand car and your rights”, plenty of advise

It's been handed to their warranty company, who are happy to have a main dealer diagnosis, but may want me to use somewhere cheaper to actually fix it as they have an hourly rate cap.

I will probably go this route as if any software or recalls need doing they will get picked up as well.

Not sure if there would be any "good will" repair or contribution on an 8 year old, but it can't hurt to ask.
