Manual Sticky Gears
Hi guys,
Have noticed for quite a while now the gear change on my manual 163 D5 (2003) Seems a bit stiff, sometimes you really have to push it out of gear. Just doesnt seem to glide in and out like i assume it should. Any clues? Dont get me wrong its not terrible whining or biting the gears, just seems very stiff in and out and sometimes a bit lumpier than it should. Thanks for any help Rich Just noticed this was in wrong section and have reported sorry..... Last edited by RAN60; May 31st, 2011 at 16:14. Reason: Mistake |

My MY01 XC is like this sometimes too. I'm going to swap out the box oil and see if it helps.
Would be interested to see if anyone has anything more definitive to say on the matter.

Hi,
This may be of no help (I drive an auto) but I seem to remember several posts about this. There was an issue of Volvo using the wrong type of grease on the clutch splines causing clutch drag. This caused difficulty in gear selection. Check to see if it is any easier to select the gears when the engine is off? Another post suggested the linkages (Cables I think?) may have dried out or corroded with water ingress. Don't know how to check for this! Hope this helps? Bob
