Actually the ECU's on these are brilliant for tuning.

So long as the engines up to the job you can just keep going and going. The software always compensates to the hardware.

The rods are the only downside, replace your rods, wack a big turbo on, tweak the map and you're done. 350hp. There aren't many cars you can do that with without massive engine rebuilds/fueling/ECU's/injectors.

I don't know much about these cars Alex well tuning them but modern cars are all set for eu emmison controls I'm wary, there is a reason why they sell super cars as opposed too normally family cars pushing out serious power, I've thought about doing mine getting a Italian tuning box but will it push out much more with out comprising the engine somewhere. Older ones you fitted forged rods, uprated cam shafts, lsd's, etc and you were good to push them. As I say I don't know a lot about tuning modern volvo's.

You can still do it, just depends on the car - Looks at the R35 GTR, so many of those are running over 600hp with not a lot of real effort.

Also, polestars 350hp T6, I was talking to my Uncle about it the other day, that engine is hardly pushed. You could buy one of those, remap them (no idea who could do it though!) fit two larger turbos and again, be running well into the 450/500hp area....

IIRC though, Volvo have now locked their ECU's on the newer cars....Could be wrong though.

Hope you get this sorted Alex!

I was looking at eventually getting a remap for mine but I really don't want to compromise on reliability ! :/

James

Hi James,

I'm pretty much 100% sure that this isn't remap related, as said above, it's not a software rewrite, it's just the OEM map with tweaked ignition values and a few other parameters changed to bring the boost in progressively. It even has all the Volvo diagnostics on board still which with other remaps you'll loose - Plus the guy who's written it knows these cars very well!

This maps being run on a lot of T4's and is very well tested. The problems with a sensor somewhere. I also get the my idle bouncing up and down for a few minutes when in limp mode, then it sorts itself out

As as software engineer myself, I'm pretty adamant it's a hardware fault, I'm just not sure where yet
