Default 06 plate Auto Gear Selector Problem

Hi again everyone I have terrible problems getting my selector out of Park on level ground once wrenched out all gears work and function as they should, I believed it was the release button under the gear knob so wasted my money on a solution advertised on ebay which gives a replacement button, bottom line to that is I could not get it back in, the car is still driving and after initial fight to get out of park works as it should, I have now ordered a complete selector but would like to know if the cable that connects it to the gear box requires adjustment or is it a standard size as the one I have ordered used does not come with cable and being as it is our only transport I dare not dismantle until I have a replacement any advice on this gratefully welcomed many thanks Chris

You should be able to re-assemble the selector paddle/button. It is a bit fiddly but it can be done. I did it a couple of weeks ago.

If not, you don't need to replace the whole selector assembly, just the gear stick.

I have given up trying to get this to work and purchased a complete used unit which I intend to fit tomorrow weather permitting, the used unit seems to be working fine on the bench so are there any tips for fitting this should I leave it in park when disconnecting or neutral ? does the cable require adjustment for the new unit or are they a standard fit if adjustment is needed where from and how, many thanks Chris
