Rear Haldex Flange Hypothetical query
In the near future I intend repairing/replacing my Haldex pump in my 2007 XC90 D5 Geartronic.
When I did this on my previous XC70, once the six hex bolts had been removed , the propshaft parted from the rear flange easily by inserting two bolts through the threaded hole at the rear of the flange and exerting pressure by tightening them. On my XC90 the flange/prop joint looks far rustier. Opinions Please! If after removing the six hex bolts securing the prop to the flange, I cannot get the prop apart from the flange by the two bolt method, what are people thoughts on leaving the securing bolts out temporarily to see if the prop can break itself free from any corrosion by it's unsecured revolving action. Obviously I am only talking about slow speed short distances and again only if the need arises although I have read about several people having an awful job trying to free the prop from the flange over the years. Cheers Thinking about this further I don't think it will work. With the Haldex inoperative there will be no resistance for the prop against the flange and even corrosion will probably be quite sufficient to hold everything in place thus not helping me at all. At present I'm just trying to think around the problem if it arises when I attempt to remove the rear of the prop rather than have no answers to hand.

I got mine done in the garage as I don't have any hard standing to work on, mate in garage said he had to put far more force into forcing it apart then he normally would...
Why not soak the assembly in penetrating oil several times leaving it overnight over the course of a week before trying removal? I have read that when servicing the Haldex it's easier to leave the prop flange on the Haldex and split the Haldex case which allows thorough cleaning out of the unit and easier filter change, I'm not sure if you can take the pump out with the flange on though! What's up with the pump?

I did the same job on my XC70 in situ and it all came apart like clockwork and I repaired the pump on that with an internal clean and new brushes. On the XC90, I'm anticipating a problem with propshaft removal that I may not actually have. Today I started feeding a 50/50 mix of ATF and Acetone through the two holes at the back of the flange and will do so over the next week or so before trying to get things apart. Other than that, so far I'm happy with the car and it certainly handles the caravan well

I just noticed your other thread on this!
I wonder if the pump will come out with the flange on? I know it's a non starter on the poorly positioned xc70 one... Let us know how you get on?

I'm hoping this one is going to be a keeper so worth spending time and money now to maximise benefit.
