Default 240 Alloys

It seems there are many sets of alloys + tyres available to buy that almost work out cheaper than a full set of budget or part worn tyres!

Which Volvo Alloys fit 240s without spacers etc?

Cheap aftermarket alloys are almost certainly fwd only. Oh, and the tyres fitted on them tend to be terrible in the wet.

As per Brodgar & of course the 15" Virgos or 14" Coronas which are 240 specific.

If you are not in a rush, bide your time & keep your eyes peeled, bargains do pop up on fleabay & similar sites

My Coronas cost me £50 for 5 a bargain, even if they are a bit tatty

...do I understand that if they come off one of the vehicles above they will fit a 240? So would Aries fit a 240?

I also have very tatty Coronas, which I like, yet it appears one of the tyres may be from 1984 and is currently making a very strange 'squelching' sound once per rotation at low speed !?? It may well be making it a high speed as well but....

A squelching sound is always a good sound for any car to make IMO !

16" galaxys are the nicest alloy - again my opinion only

Aries alloys will fit a 240.

Any wheels fitted to a 140/160, 240/260, 740/760 or 940 willl fit. 960 wheels will fit up to 1995 I believe, after that 960s use a front wheel drive offset which will require spacers. Wheels from a P1800E and ES will fit I believe, but not a P1800 or P1800S.

Other cars which use the Volvo 5x108 bolt pattern are newer fords and jags (require spacers), newer renaults and peugeots (require spacers), the Alfa 166 (spacers!), Ferrari (may not require spacers) and the Lotus Esprit V8 (which may well bolt right on, but I doubt anybody's ever tried!)

I'd definitely not trust the 1984 tyre, tyres are designed with a working life of six years, at this age you're supposed to replace them regardless of wear or use! I've just replaced all the tyres on my mum's 2001 Clio, the car's only done 15k miles but the tyres were in terrible condition.

I am watching this topic with great interest
If you could post some photos with the alloys that were fitted (from factory) on the 240, would be great!
I'd love to see some alloys on the 240 (as I have steel wheels on mine).

Any excuse:

Coronas (not factory fitted to my car, but were a factory fit to 240GLE models IIRC)

How about a partial list of rwd volvo alloys?

That list's by no means exhaustive, but it does cover a majority of 240/740/940 factory wheels.

not mentioned there and also of note is the Polaris, the only factory 17" wheel. A very good looking wheel and rare as rocking horse doo-doo!

Personally I've wanted a set of Galaxies and a set of Multi-X (or any other 15 or 16" mesh style wheel) for an age, but ebay does not provide very often, and when it does it always coincides with me being broke
