Taking delivery of a 'new' 2010 S60 D3 SE
Looking forward to picking up my 'new' S60 D3 SE on Thursday. I've had a thorough look over it and a decent test drive and everything seems great. It only has 30k miles on it with a Volvo main dealer history for the first 2 services. The supplying dealer is putting the first MOT on it this week, doing a service and giving me a 6 month warranty. Unfortunately I'm a sceptical guy.
The dealer subcontracts the service work to a local garage. Do you think the garage will use the correct 0W30 oil and replace all of the 30k service items? I'm not convinced. Not for any real reason but that's unfortunately how I am! The car has 17" Balder alloys (which look in really good condition). The front tyres are reasonable but I forgot to look at the size. Am I correct in thinking they're 215/50/17? If so, they're bloody expensive! Cheers for any inputs! |

Shop around for tyres.
Top range from dealer runs about £150 a tyre, but there is a brand, also available through my Volvo dealer at £59 a tyre. Dealer says they are made by Continental, but in some obscure Eastern European country. Not sure about that. You should be able to get Avons at about £125 or so. But, I had Michelins on my XC60 and I got over 25000 mikes from the fronts, and 40000+ from the backs. You do need the right oil for peace of mind, if nothing else, and it's easy to check if the Volvo oil filter has been fitted.

The car MUST have the correct low-ash diesel oil, or you could end up with diesel particle filter (DPF) problems.
I would ask the dealer to tell you exactly what oil was used in the service -- if you get any evasiveness or a vague answer, tell them it's not good enough and you'll bin the sale unless they can guarantee to you, in writing, that the correct specification oil has been used at the service. The correct oil must meet the ACEA A5/B5 spec and be 0W30, as you say. Castrol Edge 0W-30 A5/B5 is available from Halfords, for example. The owner's manual is here: esd.volvocars.com/site/owners-information/MY12/V60/OM_1120/V60_owners_manual_MY12_EN_tp13320.pdf |
