I think there are two reasons for this :

It would take a bigger motor than there is money or space for in the strut to make it faster

Safety , moving at that speed gives people TIME to get out of the way or react . Time is the most crucial thing there is in avoiding accidents ..

If I recall correctly the was a discussion here a couple of years ago on this subject and it appeared that the original jacks were rather slow. I know that on mine the boot opens quite quickly and I believe that there was change in the design of the jack struts - might be worth speaking to the dealer and see if you can purchase the new versions?

MY14 has double struts, think I read the new set up is 3 secs quicker.
All I do know is the last one was painfully slow.

To allow sensors time to work when you open it up inside garage preventing it hitting the roof and damaging the boot, or roof of garage, or both ...

Also to allow you to move back slightly. As I have little else to do at the moment I have timed mine...!! It takes 3.6 seconds to open and 3.9 to close.

Regards
