Gearbox mount
I'm looking at replacing my gearbox mount ( 1996 940 with M90 box ) and gear link bushes
Anybody have any experience of doing this ? How easy/difficult is it to do ? Cheers Mark

Super easy to do the mount. Support the box, 4x 14mm bolts + 1x 15mm nut to remove crossmember, 2x 10mm bolts to remove mount.

From memory (was a while ago) its just a case of remove the split pin and centre shaft then pull the fork (bottom of the gear stick you shift with) off the selector shaft (the shaft it joins heading forward to actually shift the gears).
Then they just pop out and the new ones go in - they are shaped like a cotton reel split in 1/2, like a polybush. Need to do the ones on my 960, hopefully will in the next few days, so will post again if i have got anything above wrong. Also found a few thin shims on either side when reassembling helped the shift feel tighter. Anyway, tl:dr - not a hard job at all, when you see it is pretty apparent how it comes apart. Hope that helps PP |

Yep, if you look in the two pics above - the shift lever is the silver pipe ontop of the gear box, above where the prop bolts to the back of the box (the three lobe rotor thing in the pic)
It's a bit awkward to get your arms into position if the car is on stands, piece of cake on a lift with the car over your head. And don't worry about being new to it all, everyone was a novice at some point and was shown how to do this sort of stuff. PP |
