fuel consumption
Having driven my automatic se estate over a few weeks now, I am beginning to think that she uses too much fuel, roughly how many miles to a tenner?? I seem to be getting about 50 miles around town.
Is there any way to improve the consumption??? I just use drive all the time, should I use 1 & 2?? when around town??? what about engaging 4th gear ?? should I use it or not when I am traveling to work on the dual carriage way?? |

A full tank should give you between 250 - 300 miles depending on how you drive and road conditions. Remember these are heavy old beasts and the auto box although relaxing to drive soaks up energy!
Unless your towing or fully laden I would leave it in drive and avoid using the overdrive lockout (button on the side of the gearstick) or changing manually. Try and accelerate smoothly avoiding kickdown and try not to accelerate up gradients and hills (try and build up speed gradually before a hill). Its surprising how much difference driving style can make to fuel consumption!

I get about 85 miles to £20 which is around 19.5 (101.9) litres, and this is all town driving (not always slowly i hasten to add) and about 170/190 miles to £40 (106.9) on 3/4 motorway and 1/4 town use

Both mileage and speedo were over before and still are a little bit (when compared to GPS and mapping). No reading about 2-3% fast compared to 7-8% before.
