help! cant open doors manually. now locked out!
hi all
got a 2009 s40 1.6 diesel ...which broke down on me the other day...RAC came out...long story short battery and alternator both knackered so dead car...RAC got me to a mates garage by disconnecting the alternator and putting a new battery on that got me to the garage where he then took his battery back...i order to stop the alarm going off with the battery disconnected the car was locked with the horrible metal key thingy that is inside the key fob. ..this was very stiff but locked ok next day i got a battery and a new alternator ready to be fitted...trouble is now the horrible metal key thing is turning in the lock and not doing anything...battery is knackered so i've no way to get into the car! basically i'm locked out with no obvious way of getting in except breaking a window .....does anyone know how i can effectively break in!? any help asap would be most appreciated cheers ...stressed owner ! |

You would be better posting in the correct forum. This only deals with the classic S/V40 up to 2004

Or connect the red positive lead of a 12V borrowed battery charger to the main starter terminal and the negative black lead to any bare metal frame part of vehicle which would also enable the key fob to operate the central locking permitting access to the cab which will let you operate the bonnet pull. NB it is also worth knowing that 4 x 2032 batteries connected as a series stack with the smaller +ve end connected to the red/large starter terminal and the larger diameter end connected to the frame will provide enough power to activate the central locking, similarly 8 x 1.5 AA or AAA cells connected in series will achieve the same. A 9v PP3 will give just enough VA to allow the operation of the central locking. NB in emergency 8 x 1.5V D cells in series will provide enough one-off power to spin the starter for a few seconds and get you going before they polarise and shut down! Above all please make sure you get the polarity correct +ve = positive = red --- -ve = negative = black.

To the concerned post-reporter...this does not explain how to break into the car, but how to power it up such that the remote fob will work.
cheers James
