Default C30 diesel 57 plate issues

Hi my srs airbag light recently came on, right before I was due to mot it. I now can't get it mot's due to this. The garage I went to said they can't turn the light off or mot it and believe its the ecu.
Any e have experience of this and know what may be causing this issue so I don't have to fork out loads at volvo on an old car.

Thankyou

Have you moved the seat recently? Admittedly it wasn’t necessarily Volvo, but the culprit has been known to be the connections under the seat. Maybe a wild goose chase, but maybe worth checking?

Really you need to get the codes read, SRS light can be triggered by a fair few things.

I made the mistake of removing the front seats without disconnecting the battery and this caused the light to come on. Unfortunately it won't reset if you just plug the connection back in and a generic (cheap) obd scan tool is unlikely to assist.

I ended up buying an iCarsoft scan tool from this very forum that did the trick. These are about £100-£150 depending on the model unless you find one second hand.

Personally I think having the tool yourself is worth it especially if you plan on keeping the car for a while.

Alternatively you will need to find a garage with the capability to scan the car but this isn't cheap.

Not sure if there is a list of forum members with diagnostic kit who may be able to help? (I am in West Lancashire so a bit far away)

You've presumably paid your garage good money for no real result?

Exactly what have they done, and what equipment have they used to read the codes?

I know the dealers are pricy but at least youd now have a firm diagnosis for you money. As wgl suggests below, getting the codes read properly would be a big help. I have the new iCarsoft V3.0, and that would pay for iteself first time I need to use it in anger.

so I took to a local garage, they said they weren't able to clear the codes but they said it brought up control module fault. but that's all I have to go on.
I was doing some research and came across the website crashdata.co.uk and that says they reset the module, didn't know if to give that a try. I did contact volvo and they want £49 for diagnosis, the £600 for the module, guessing that does not include the labour. my car is only worth 1k, less once its mot runs out which is due by feb but can't put it through the mot with this light on.

That seems a good price, I'd get it done and assess the options from there.
