Changed the oil filter & oil (Bosch oil filter & Shell 5w30 Professional AF oil, which meets A5/B5 spec).

Earlier in the week, I fixed my washer fluid leak. The level sensor that has a grommet on the end of it wasn’t fully in place where it connects to the reservoir. So as water/screen wash was being poured in, it was escaping past the grommet that wasn’t properly secure. Pushed the grommet back in place & its fine now.

Had the dreaded Headlight Failure Service Required.
However using the VIDA/DICE I bought from a member (ChershireD5 - thank you sir) I was able to ascertain it was the front sensor for the ride height that was playing up.

A quick bit of detective work shows that on my P3 model it is a FoMoCo part and could be bought significantly cheaper from a Ford parts department rather than Volvo.

Whipped off with a spray of BDX Bulldog (2 M10 nuts, 1 M8 bolt) and replaced sensor and reclined wiring.
All sorted

A bit peeved that there appeared to be only footwell illumination on the drivers side, i proceeded to take the dash apart on the passenger side thinking there may be a plug tucked out the way somewhere behind the foot well lower trim.

Removed that, pulled the carpet back and low and behold...

Only thing is, the lens is missing so it wont fit in the appeture.

Found a new complete unit on ebay so promptly ordered!

Car failed it's MOT on non-operational parking brake on the drivers side.

Removed the cable/connector from the EPB and found one of the terminals had come away internally within the plug.

Pushed it back into place and job's a good'n. Even fitted some new loom tape

Put petrol in the diesel tank.

But only a little, 2%-3%, so I probably got away with it. 7.5% is the safe limit apparently. Haven't done that for 17 years!

Took my V8 S80 for a very short 200yd drive, rattling when moving forward but not in reverse?

Turns out the Heat Shield behind the offside front wheel is loose so that's a job for Tuesday as today was cleaning door card replacements for my 1995 960 estate

New Bosch wipers fitted - my first bit of V70 maintenance!

Only a couple of months and a couple of hundred miles into V70 ownership, and so far we like it very much. Everything seems to work, and generally it seems to be very well put together - the solidity reminds me rather of the Saabs I used to drive between '84 and 2011.

At getting on for 15 years old it's not immaculate, neither is it a weekend garage queen, but after a wash and a wax with Collinite 476S last weekend it's scrubbed up very well - the photo doesn't do it justice really. The service book suggests it's had regular servicing (including cam belt), so I'm hoping I haven't bought a pup. Geartronic gearbox fluid change booked for a couple of week's time.

The only slight oddity I've noticed is that when it's not been started for a day or two the engine is a little lumpy on cold startup. It's nothing much (I hope!), and it settles into an even tickover in 5 seconds or less. It's a bit like one pot being a bit lazy to fire up perhaps? It's a bit like momentary over-choking for those who can remember the joys of manually choked cars. Perhaps worth a dose of injector cleaner and a decent run maybe?

4 new Continental SportContact 5 tyres fitted.

Went for the 4 wheel alignment and found no adjustment was necessary.

Jobs to do:

1. Replace Aircon Compressor. It has seized and is missing the Aircon drive belt.
2. Fix Audio issue. I think the amp has failed.
3. Paint flaking of a rear parking sensor.
4. Windscreen leak. Just started happening in the last few days. I have reached out to Volvo to see what they can do and waiting for a reply. Otherwise, I will find a local windscreen fitter.
