I connected mine to the return tee and the feed, just where they join the metal pipes about 60mm from the pump - Make sure you plug the feed as the tank lift pump sends a good stream of fuel everywhere!

I'll have a look and see if there are any pics I can use to describe..

Mike

PS FWIW, I used a Litre of it, and it made no difference at all...

Thanks Mike, a few pics would be really helpful.

The engine runs well enough, no issues. I'm only doing it because I enjoy "tinkering" with the car. The can I purchased is the 1 litre version, designed for use on lorries, vans etc. double what a normal car has.

Here you go - Disconnect pipe 33 @ connection 34, then slip your feed hose into the rubber pipe.

Disconnect section 28 from the metal pipe 27, and the return hose goes into the horizontal hose coming off the left of the "Y" drop the two pipes into your tin, cap the end of the metal feed pipe you opened at point 34, and bingo..

Due to the weather being cold and wet my lads didn't want to go to rugby this morning so while they snuggled up in bed with their mom I popped out to the garage to run a litre of Diesel Purge through my 2004 XC90. As she has 160,000 miles on her I thought it might be worth while doing.

Check out the vid.

Took about 40 minutes start to finish, varied the rpm, with a max of 3000 as I didn't want to push her too hard ..

Thanks for your help Mike, not sure if its made any difference yet as I've not driven it since I did the purge, I'll let you know later ..

So, just took the car for a drive to the mother in laws, 15 mile round trip.

I'm not sure if its wishful thinking or there really is a difference but there seems to be less vibration when ticking over and the engine sounds better. Performance is the same, just feels better.

Was it worth £14 of my hard earned cash and 40 minutes of my time? YES ...

You get so many mixed reports on this sort of thing. But like you, I like tinkering and just seeing what is what.

Who knows, maybe it did some preventative work that we would just never notice. Thanks for the vid and to Ducklake for the pics and info.

Been out in it a few times now and there is a difference, not huge but deffinately noticable at tick over. I may do it again in a month or so, more for preventative reasons than anything else. I enjoy tinkering and it ony cost £14 ...

Well its been a few weeks since I did the purge and I have to say it has made a big difference. I don't think the engines ECU was able to adjust instantly to the new cleaned injectors and it took a few days for it to learn. The difference now is very noticable, the engine much quieter, feels smoother when accelerating. Was deffinately worth doing on my 160,000 mile D5 XC90 ..
