PS. The seller has re-advertised it and now claims it would make 'an ideal fishing boat or small houseboat'... one would have to like the outdoors a great deal to live on that!
Still no bids on the crappy boat - after the second, or maybe third auction :-)

Perhaps he'll take the hint but given how many times both the car and dodgy looking car have been listed now, i don't think so!

That said there's usually some mug will buy them eventually although people seem to be getting more choosy about what they buy.

The chap has re-advertised the crappy boat - still at £300. This is a bit different to most items in that not many people will have room for a 20'2" rowing boat! I can't be bothered to watch this one any more :-)

It looks (to me) that the seller has manipulated the price above a point where it is credible via some shill bidding, and so doesn't really have anywhere to go. I suppose there is an outside chance someone with 10 grand they want to spend on a £5,000 motor car might show up, but otherwise I suspect we will see the motor car again in 2 weeks time.

£10,101 now, and still 6 days of the auction to go!

It is quite possible of course that this is all genuine: that there are 2 or 3 bidders going at it hammer and tongs with still nearly a week to go, that auction fever has taken hold, that we will see a record price for this motor car...

... the other option is the seller made up the bit about a deposit already being taken (that part is rather irrefutable) and has a two of three shill bidding accounts giving us a spectacular auction.

All will become clear soon after the end of the auction if we see the motor car for sale again.

:-)

I must admit I'm a wee bit baffled by it all !

Wasn't it Socrates who said, " I call myself a wise man because I realise there is so much I don't know " ?

... und mich auch, Andrew. I'm really not sure what is going on here, but I can't help thinking there is something not entirely above board.

I've never understood the idea of throwing bids in[whether that be in an e-bay auction or any other kind]from the get go.I've always figured my maximum budget then kept my eye on whatever the item is and if it's still below my budget "when thew hammer is ready to fall" I'll enter my bid.Obviously I can still be outbid but I see no point in driving up the ultimate price I might have to pay by bidding from the start.

That is one of things that Andrew, Dave and I find perplexing DD; I could not agree more that it makes little sense to place high bids with 6 days of an auction still to go. I have noticed that many of the seller’s other auction lots follow a similar unusual bidding pattern - but perhaps that is just a coincidence?

I couldn't agree more, early bidding on dear items is nuts. Somethings that are going to max out at a tenner, with a fiver start, yes ,a early bid can deter others but expensive stuff, your way every time!
