The Bluetooth module is fitted and works a treat. I tried it with the old speaker and it does work - but unfortunately it is well past its best. I have a couple of small speakers on order.

The rust on the chassis strut is all cut out - about a 9" x 2" hole to weld up. Fortunately the vertical elements were both fine, so it is just a flat horizontal plane to fix.

:-)

Good news on your BT module Alan, as for the rust hole, is there any way you could dress it up and call it a drainage hole? If not sounds like you'll need some hefty steel plate (1.6-2.0mm at a guess) and some patience to do the upside down welding.

I've ordered 1.5mm sheet Dave, a bit heftier than normal.

The BT module is excellent, it starts up with a pleasant tone when the ignition is switched on and automatically connects to my iPhone. I'm probably going to stick it to the back of the passenger cubby with some double sided tape. For £16 it is a really neat solution. The speakers are cheapies (about £6 I think) - I just need a neat cell phone holder now. I'll look amongst my bike bits, I've tried all sorts over the years.

Alan

A flexible seal is probably better here (Butyl based) it will skin over but remains flexible etc.

Good Luck
Regards Bob.
EBT is a filler-adhesive and will remain flexible to a small degree, unlike the dedicated Sikaflex adhesives such as 221. It's also easy to cut with a blade and you don't need to resort to wire saws like you would with 221.

You're right about butyl sealants though, an alternative worth considering.

The non-setting butyl sealants are what is used in the Amazon, the screens aren’t bonded in, they sit in the rubber seal. Brookhouse sell the correct sealant.

As I work my way through my list of jobs on Aunt Maud, the list seems to only get longer :-). I'm enjoying it though.

Today's first little job was removing a defunct speaker that was laying on the floor under the driver's seat. That in itself didn't take long (the seat is only secured by 3 bolts), but whilst I was laying on the floor with the door open removing the seat I noticed the interior light didn't illuminate. Once the speaker (a domestic hi-fi type one that the PO must have used with an aux cable) was out of the way I had a look at the interior light:

... when I had removed the lens I noticed a ball bearing (perhaps 2mm) rolling around inside it. Eagle eyed readers will notice there is a ball bearing missing between the end of the switch and the 3 position contacts - it was immediately obvious what had happened.

It was a bit fiddly, but the ball bearing was persuaded back into its place and the retainer bent a little more towards the switch handle:

... as you may see in this photo.

I'm pleased to report that the interior light now does what it is supposed to in all 3 positions, and in particular the cabin is illuminated when the door is opened:

Working on older cars is frustrating of course, everything takes much longer than it should because hardly anything comes apart easily, but at the same time it is enormously satisfying when things work again. I wonder how many years it has been since that light switch operated properly?

Aunt Maud is the motor car that just keeps giving.

:-)

Another useless fact, the same interior light is used in Aston Martin DB5's!

I guess its probably a generic Lucas item is it?
