Default Amazon brake bias valve

Hello everyone!

Its been some time since I have posted on here, thats probably because my Amazon has been giving me loads of fault free miles. Until now.... its become aparent my rear brakes might have stopped working some time ago... maybe a year and 4000 miles when I started to notice the lack of rear brakes!

Now its winter and I have swapped to some early rims with very old tyres and can now confirm the rear brakes are just an ornament!

So the Amazon is a 67 estate with single line brakes, no servo. My idea is, fit a remote servo and bin the dodgy bias valve. What do you guys think?

Looking on brookhouse it suggests some cars had them and some didnt, but not 100% sure or not. Any thoughts?

Hi
the dodgy bias valve has saved your life
it has clicked over and stopped the brake fluid ****ing out the back
and if it happened 4000 miles ago
what other faults have happened
you have not noticed

Welcome back. While I don’t have the expertise of Rob, a suggestion might be to look at rebuilding your valve, or replacing with a new one. Last I looked they were available, as well as the kits. I’ve read over the years that eliminating the valve can be a risky proposition. They are part of the braking system for a good reason.

Cheers!

First check would be to remove the drums to check the brakes. They may well be in the same condition as Othens. Does the handbrake lock up the wheels on a loose surface? Of course an MOT would give you numbers and a good idea as to how they are performing.
Early Amazons without the valve use different size brake cylinders.

Hi Tom
Got the brake bias valve on my 1966 131 rebuilt by Past Parts Ltd, Suffolk, at a cost of £124.50.

I would suggest either having it rebuilt or failing that you can use a mechanical line limiter
