Default Tyres!

What are you guys recommending these days?

The v70 has some Pirelli P7 somethings with plenty of tread but they are quite poor with regards to front grip in the damp.

Not shy about buying something decent. I have had Michelin primacy 4s on other vehicles in the past plus pilot sport 3 on an Audi S4 I had previously, although I do understand that whilst a particular tyre might perform well on one car, it may not always on another.

Bring new to Volvos, I am still learning and finding my feet!

Cheers!

Hi

I have winter set

16" bridgestone blizzak lm005 - never again, too loud in cornernig, now also on flat. I had ts860 conti and I it's good tire

Summer:

17" hankook Ventus s1 evo3. Really good tire. I would probably go for some. They are good in wet handling and wet braking. Those two are what I'm always looking for, when I make choice for buying tires for my car.

Mine came out of the factory with Conti Sport Contact so I replaced with same. I've found them to be excellent grip and wear. They are a summer tyre so can't comment on what they are like in the winter

My daughter has Nokian Weatherproof all season tyres on her XC70. Very good.
I have Kleber Quadraxer all seasons on my 940. Also very good.
My Klebers are lasting much better than her Nokians.

I've had my S80 for about 8 years, I used to always fit the latest version of 245/40/R18 Continental Sport Contact as they consistently came out best in the tyre tests (AutoBild, Auto Express etc etc). That said, I noticed they scrabbled for grip a bit if I had to floor it from a standstill in the wet. Then Continental stopped making the Sport Contact in their new version 6 in the 245/40/18 size, and now only offer Premium Contact in that size (although the older versions of the Sport Contacts are still available somehow). So I switched to Michelin Pilot Sport 4 which bettered the Premium Contacts in the tyre tests, and I feel they are a better tyre than the Conti Sport Contacts - I haven't experienced any wheel spin. I also feel they're less prone to aquaplaning, but that's subjective. So I'll default to the Michelin PS4 next time. ATS Euromaster are owned by Michelin, and so they regularly have them on offer with around £50 off of a set of four bringing them down to £125 each, fitted. On my mixed motorway / B-road commute, they last 20k miles on the front, 30-40K miles on the back, and I'm not particularly careful.

Not that it's an issue yet but any recommendation for my 2007 S80 V8?

I ran Pirelli P4s back in my boy racer days on my XR2 mk2 Pirellis used to go well but tyre wear was terrible probably my driving back then!

What do Volvo fit?

I’ve been running Continental Premium Contact 6 for the last couple of years, as I’ve found them to give the best balance between grip, wear and noise. Have run Michelin Pilot Sport 4 which were good, Pirelli P Zero’s which went out of shape. Just fitted Bridgestone Turanza as they got the best rating for rolling resistance, but they’re not as grippy as the Contis, and I’ll be going back to the Premium Contact 6 again next time I change.

Ok so ordered a pair of Primacy 4s which were on offer and are being fitted next Sunday!

Thanks for the suggestions.

I put CrossClimate+ on my 2005 D5 XC70 2 years ago and a month ago I put the new CrossClimate2 on my 2008 D5 XC70 Lux Polestar.

The CrossClimate2 replaced the Falken ZIEX S/T that was on the car when I bought it and the car feels much more planted and surprisingly is also lighter in the steering.

Supposedly the 2's are stunningly good in snow according to test results but where I live we've not had any snow so can't verify.
