Default 240 clutch pedal low

When I picked up the 240 a few weeks ago the clutch bite point was low and there was a lot of “slack” at the top of the pedal, like the cable was no longer actually doing anything and it was just the spring in the pedal.

Today after not using the car for a week, the bite point is right as the bottom.

Car still goes into gear but the bite point is almost instant

Any thoughts??

So the clutch fluid tank is empty

Is the clutch system totally separate to the steering system?

I assume I have a leak in the system somewhere

Clutch was working fine before so can only really be the lack of fluid

Looks easy enough to swap out the slave and master cylinder

Pipework???

Yes the clutch fluid isn't connected to the power steering this has its own header tank:~

Do you have any signs of fluid loss around the slave cylinder or the attached bleed nipple? I would look at this first, you may also have a slave cylinder seal that has given up.
Check all pipe connections then-----
Try fresh fluid in the reservoir and bleed the air out via the nipple on the slave cylinder.
Good Luck.
Bob.

Luckily is a v v simple set up

1 reservoir with the cylinder under and a pipe to the other cylinder to actuate

If it’s all broken down, at least a new set up can me put in

So a top up and it’s working a bit (without bleeding)

But the master cylinder is defo leaking and dripping down onto the exhaust

And it’s dripping onto the exhaust and floor

So looking for a replacement master cylinder

Any thoughts?

I emailed Brookhouse for a price but any aftermarket ones recommended??

If prices are ok I’ll replace master, slave and pipe

You could place an advert on this site for a used item:~
eBay generally has a number of cars being broken.
Ashley classics also supply used parts (Manchester-Sale)
Other used parts suppliers are also mentioned within the forum if you search.

The cylinder will still need bleeding as all air pockets need to be removed even though fluid is added.
Regards Bob.

Thanks mate

Already had deliveries from Ashley (and a chat about the pub at the end of the runway in Manchester)

And Brookhouse delivered today

Think I’ll go for new ones if they are available - then it’ll last
