I am trying to get a couple of new parts for my Gen 1 XC90 before I sell it. I can't seem to find an official parts diagram to order what I need or at least get a part number. I have seen something on a US site and the part numbers dont seem to tally up.

The driver's side door interior handle to open the door has failed. The plastic at the end of the release cable has broken so is not held in place properly so the nipple jumps out. The part that the release cable slots into has also has got a broken tab. I am going to try and glue it together but the larger part that the release cable goes into seems really expensive.

Any links or advice greatly appreciated.

The parts chap at the dealers will pull it up on their screen and you can point to the part you need. It's likely not terribly expensive.

that might be the best bet...don't want to spend on it as i am selling it very soon. on a US site the cable was $14 and the handle unit $200. will have to weigh it up...as it is it's gone back in place with some glue keeping the cable seated so hopefully it will be okay.

I guess the equivalent to the old scrap yard is such as ebay.

Are you joking? Their is breakers everywhere. Ebay also full of them too. Just type in xc90 breaking on Facebook and go to marketplace. Stay away from the main stealer. What you need doesn't need to be new. Loads of cars scrapped with them parts still in them coz they can't get rid of small parts like that.

Don't dismiss the dealer without doing your homework first. It could turn out to be an expensive error.

Not only will they identify the part you need from your VIN and find the part number, which a breaker will not do, but they often supply new part cheaper than used ones.

I was quoted £80 for a window switch from a breaker, and a similar amount from a breaker on ebay. In the end I discovered it was only £43 from the dealer. Now, I'm no mathematician...

From local breakers a switch should be no more than a £5. Im buying whole doors for £40 to £80. They saw you coming.
I've paid £35 for second hand throttle potentiometers, were it was £500 from the main stealer and couldnt guarantee it would fix it. It would be my loss. Not volvo.
I'd another main dealer looking a £1000 for ecu and couldnt program it with only one key and couldnt guarantee it would work, between second keys new boards, their programming it was nearly into £2000 and wouldn't guarantee it would fix it. So £100 from local breakers and bring it back if I couldn't get it to work and £50 from an ex main dealer worker gone solo working out of a hay shed for programming. Job done.
Instrument cluster went on another and was running battery down. Same story main stealer looking a grand for new cluster etc and local whizz kid fixed cluster for £70.
So definitely do your homework. Second hand parts should be buttons compared to new.
Everything in society now seems throw away coz to much money or cant be bothered.

You missed my point about actually going to a breaker's and having a rummage about all the cars. Of course i know breaker's exist.
