Default V70 passenger side speakers not working

Hi all

Picked up a v70 few months back.
It's preface lift. In spotless condition.
Been an absolute dream to own.
However the stereo today decided to play up.
Every passenger side speaker has stopped working.
It's an older system as is the car but sounds incredible ( when working ).
It has the 4 Multichanger cd player with the prologic and 3 channel settings.
The bass is really good.
It's the D5.
I think it might be a reasonable spec for It's time but not familiar with the volvo trim levels.

Anyone else had this?
Really keen to get this sorted as it's a bit of a dealbreaker for me
Cost wise is not so important as I consider worth it.
Read something about amp under passenger seat.

Any info most welcome and appreciated.

Thanks
Jim

jack the seat up as far you can height and as far forward as possible.

go in the rear drivers side and have a look under seat.

theres 3x plugs, power, phono and speaker out

Most of my front speakers don’t work fully at the moment. I’m thinking and hoping it’s down to the headunit. Going to install aftermarket unit anyway so hopefully that’ll fix it. Mine is a basic unit with no amp.

^ same here

They're still pretty good speakers though, 50w 8ohm.. but my head unit is max 4 x 55w 4ohm so I replaced with a new set for about £80 for all 4

If you do decide to do the same they're really easy to pry out and swap just leave the riveted plastic frame , peel off rubber circular edging strip and pry out the speaker itself, screw new ones in place. 6.5" fits perfectly

Then I started having crackling from my tweeters so I swapped them for 4ohm as well that was a bit more awkward in terms of fitting but not that bad

So we’re your speakers at fault then and not the headunit?

Sorry no I've confused things unnecessarily. My speakers worked OK it's just after I did the head unit I realised new ones with lower resistance would optimise performance

That being said the originals were perfectly acceptable it wasn't until I got into discussion with someone on here and started looking at the specs I realised I could improve things slightly. And I'm the sort of person once i know it just niggles away at the back on my mind every time i got in the car lol

If yours work and you're happy with them just ignore me and leave them alone

See what you mean. At the moment I would be happy with working speakers or headunit (whichever is at fault) but you’ve got me thinking of another mini project now haha.

Hi

Well fitted a new amp ( under the front seat ) and the all the lefthand speakers still don't work.
It's exactly the same with original amp and new amp.
Assuming the amp doesn't need coding in as it's behaving in the same way. Have checked the plug and connections all appears to be ok.
So thinking unless there's a break in the cable feed to left hand side speakers it must be the head unit itself.
Any thoughts most welcome!

Behind the radio there's a plug harness that essentially 'splices' the amp into the speaker circuit. Made this way so it's easier to manufacture cars with and without the premium system i'd assume. Check there's no breaks in that. I believe it's a grey/white plug with grey/white cables going into it. It might be tucked down the right hand side behind the radio, at least mine was.

Also, I imagine you've definitely checked this, but worth mentioning. Are you sure the balance knob isn't turned to the right?
