Default Help needed.

Good afternoon everyone,

I have a 2009 XC90 D5 Euro 4 that we recently bought. I have a constant issue of it being underpowered.

When I am driving uphill or when you floor it, the car will rev high but without much acceleration, all the pull seems to be in the bottom rev range and when you hit 2.5k revs, you lose all pulling power.

I don't know if this is related, but when turning the car on, the engine light is the last to go out...

I have no codes on 4 different indy diagnostics, the car has been on VIDA at the main dealer with no codes as well. Also, I have no warning lights or error messages.

Here is a list of things I have already changed:

Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Swirl flaps actuator arm, this had popped off (new arm and code reset)
Turbo Actuator (G26)
New Throttle body
EGR Cleaned
Ran cleaner through the injectors.

Any help on where to turn next would be highly highly appreciated.

Many thanks

Have you checked the MAF and for air leaks?

I'm picking boost loss.

Check the charged air pipe from turbo through intercooler to inlet manifold.

Visually inspect for cracks and damage

Feel and listen for charged air leakage while someone revs to 2200 rpm (turbo kicks in around 2000 rpm)

Use a smoke machine to look for leaks

Thanks for this, I can not hear any air leaks when driving.

Not yet, would have thought it would throw a code if it was wrong. I took it off and cleaned it.

I would have thought high revs and no pull/power means gearbox/torque convertor/clutch issues. Is the car manual or automatic? If manual it sounds like a slipping clutch. If auto then I'd guess torque convertor/transmission issue.

Yeah I cant go along with this, gearbox runs very smoothly and it would be more of a shudder. Thank you though

You say the car's new to you; do you know its service history? In particular has anyone done anything around the timing belt? I ask this because it sounds a bit like the effect you could get when the timing is out, but short of taking the cam belt covers off and refitting it exactly by the book I'm not sure how you could tell. You might also want to ask the question on the P2 S60, V70 XC70 forum where there's more members with D5 powered cars.

That doesn't rule out a boost leak. Check it with a smoke machine.

+1 Boost leak seems highly likely.

Check the orange seals on both ends of the resonator box which leads off the Turbo. Very common issue.
