Default DPF, Where to look first

Hi
Although new to this Volvo ownership and this site I’m reasonably experienced with the spanners
My 2010 v70 2.4d has quite a serious lack of power, to the point it actually struggles up hills badly, sometimes it will pull strongly in first and second (manual) then once in third there is no power and virtually zero torque.
It felt to me as if the turbo wasn’t there at all so I did some checking around and found the short intake pipe was pretty soft so changed that to no avail, there is no smoke at all so I ruled out any intercooler leaks etc.
I managed to borrow a code reader and found these were the only codes stored but all relating to the DPF , I have had the soot full warning light come on a handful of times but no eml etc , just as a quick try I put wynns dpf clean additive in the tank and did 40mins on the motorway in fourth.
I’ve still go no power but the soot light hasn’t come back on, one of the codes relates to the dpf being blocked.
My question is where to start? I guess the blocked dpf would cause bad readings on the sensors ? But my other theory was the sensors have gone so it hasn’t been regenerating hence the blocked filter
Any advice would be great many thanks

Did you read the codes with VIDA software and a DICE connector? If so this has the facility of forcing a DPF regeneration. That's where I would start.

The DPF system used on the 5 cyclinder diesel is rarely troublesome on its own. Problems tend to indicate that something somewhere else is at fault, and issues with DPF are a side affect rather than the actual problem. There can be all sorts of problems, but air leaks on the turbo side are a common one, causing the car to run rich and soot up the filter and a loss of power.

Let us know what it turns out to be.

Thanks for the replies, I have read the codes but unfortunately I can’t force a regen, I did try the motorway blast but I guess it’s to full for that C504A530-140B-424E-A22A-D7D416E779A1.jpg

check the pressure sensor and all pipe work to and from the dpf any leaks or a faulty sensor will stop the regen process. why could you not force a regen?most good diagnostic systems can do this

I’ll have a look around today, I’m only using a vehicle specific Carly dongle and app, I don’t think it has the option to do that

Okay so due to work it’s been a while since I’ve looked at my car, I’ve got myself the icarsoft diagnostic tool with regen facility built in,
I’ve ran a code scan and one which keeps cropping up is the catalyst temp sensor reading high, I’ve looked at the values and it’s constantly reading 1002.3 !
I’ve tried staring a regen but it won’t allow it.
Would this sensor be enough to put it into limp ? And prevent a forced regen ?
I’ve looked at these sensors online and was wondering if it’s worth trying to clean it ?
Any pointers would be great

Little point trying a regen until youve established what is causing the problem. It could well be a sensor issue.

Once that is fixed the likelihood is the DPF will clear itself very quickly.

It will never regenerate with a faulty catalytic converter temperature sensor , I would replace it , They can fail . most likely the sensor closest to the exhaust manifold .
