Default Fuel Hatch door button issues

First time posting so be kind…
1. 2013 XC 90 fuel hatch door won’t open when button on dash pushed
2. Decided to push button harder.
3. Now button is pushed deep to dash and took light dial with it.
4. How do I fix the position of the fuel hatch/light dial relative to the dash
5. Good news is that fuel hatch door did open and I could put gas in car

Any help/suggestions appreciated. Thanks

Remove the kick panel under the steering wheel

Look up inside the dashboard with a torch and observe the fitting ot the lamp control unit (the box with the light switch on it)

Repair or replace anything that is physically broken

The plastic tabs that hold the controls onto the back of the panel aren't very strong. My light switch keep 'disappearing', I bought a second hand unit on a popular auction site. The controls weren't identical but all I wanted was the front panel, I put my switch module into the panel. The whole thing then just pushes back into the dash.
While the module is out it is possible to carefully dismantle and clean inside if you've got a dicky switch. Watch that the shafts on the rotary switches line up when you re-assemble.

Is this for US versions of the MK1 XC90? My UK spec'd car didn't have a fuel flap release button (although it had an emergency one in the rear hatch) and certainly had no button by the light switches, when the car was unlocked so was the flap, and 10mins or so after the car was locked so the fuel flap also locked.

Same on mine.
Just yesterday had to fix the door which wouldn't unlock - found out whilst at the fuel pump, rather embarrassing.
Removed the solenoid, took it apart but all seemed well. Put some vaseline on the locking pin and reassembled it back on the car. Fuel flap unlocks along with the doors as before.
May just have been a dirty electrical contact - who knows!
