(Solder, pop rivets and sealer as alternatives) Bolt the plate to the HIF. Weld nuts to match the 3 existing bolts to the new adaptor to hold the outer part of the filter to the inner. Shorten the bolts to suit. Make sure that your adaptor plate doesn't cover up any of the vacuum holes on the face of the HIF.
Pictures please. 😊
Good advice as alway, Derek, thanks. Mind you, you'd be surprised how much continuous full throttle is needed in hilly Sheffield!

Any chance to see photos of the conversion?

I don't know if Gillberry is still using an HIF carb but here is a small pic I have showing it used with a cone filter. A picture from the carb side would be better but this is all I have.

Here you go. Crank breather goes onto carb body rather than air filter. New overflow pipe fitted and routed away to below the fuel pump. Slightly shortened throttle link and altered geometry to deal with position of kickdown spindle relative to carb.

When I sort the air filter I'll photograph that too. I'm currently looking at BMC air filter boxes (Triumph 1300 or Landcrab 1800) as these have the central bolt which should be a lot more compatible with the cone filter than the old Volvo one with the three bolts.

A little update here. I haven't fitted the air filter box yet, but I can reveal that the SU is giving me a whopping 6mpg improvement in motorway fuel consumption compared to the old Stromberg!
