Was new tyre time today, the S40 now features four Pirelli Cinturato 195/60s, so far they have massively improved normal driving environment as they are far quieter than the Hankooks / Barums that were on it before.

The dreaded bonnet cable repair... never again! Full replacement of the cable (new part from Volvo) and then a bonnet lock from a scrapper to replace the butchered one on mine. The removal of the old cable is easy and most of the installation of the new one is easy... until you have to route it from the rubber gromit in the wheelarch to the pull handle... lots of swearing involved.

Curiously the microswitches on phase 1 and 2 models appear to be set up differently despite having the same bonnet catch - when in the open position, the new switch thinks the bonnet is closed and the immobilser will arm as normal. When in the closed position, it assumes the bonnet is open and the immobiliser won't arm. (And no, before anyone asks, it doesn't matter which way round the wires go!) Which makes me think the older switches such as this one that I pinched from a T reg example were wired as a push to break circuit, with my 02 reg example being setup for a completed circuit? Who knows...

Took me all of 15 minutes from removal to refitting. The relays are in the CEM thread and you just want a solder sucker. The relays were about 2 pounds each when I did it. From what I can gather, I dont expect you to have an issue with it, just annoying to do!

New battery today, I stupidly swapped the leisure battery out of the caravan to save it from getting run down over winter, but then stupidly didn't remember to switch them back over every month or so, so now the original one off the SE is had it, same goes for the t4, and I need the leisure one for a 4 day weekend on the caravan with no electric hook up, the 096 size I wanted would have cost me around 75 quid, but the motor parts place recommend a 100 size, exact same ah and CCA and identical dimensions apart from being 175mm high instead of 190mm, 47 quid, yes please.

New top mounts installed, rain held off so all good. No more knocking or squeaking the V40 sounds like a new car

Today I discovered front fog lights are like hen's teeth from breakers yards... mine have broken locking tabs on the bulb holders from brittle 17 year old plastic. They also resemble aquariums. Now deciding whether to buy a used one off eBay or fork out for some new aftermarket ones.
