Default 5 year servicing

Hi all -

Apologies if this has been covered before - i had a scan of the posts and couldn't see.

Got my XC60 in 2014 and bought the 5 services for £500 deal - so last one this week.

Is there a consensus as to what do to for the next few years (or "sell it" as its a VEA diesel !?) ?

There is no consensus but paying a high cost for servicing is cheaper than buying another car as long as your mileage is not too high, and you can still get an extended warranty for it.

if you like it still, and it meets your needs, why ditch it for an unknown quantity? You've alreadt lost most of your money in depreciation anyway! Why start losing money all over again?
Maybe look for an independent specialist to save a bit on routine stuff. That's what I'd do. (you know nothing, Jon Snow)

I'm too new to Volvo to comment on that specifically, and I can't speak to VEA issues, but I do agree with the two previous posts on a more general note. The biggest cost in running a car is depreciation - if you buy a brand new car then the reason for doing that is never going to be financial one. If it's been reliable, and if the financial side is a major consideration then keeping it and getting it independent/specialist serviced may be the way forward.

I’m in a similar position....last service 6 weeks ago.

I’ve chosen to not renew the warranty, but to hang to it on for now: Leicester has a decent independent dealer in town I will use.
Trouble is, our car is just so good, I can’t think what I would chop it in for! Feels like I’m returning to the “bangernomics” of my youth

I agree with others....even if you do get the unexpected bill - or even expected, like cam belt next service! - it is still almost certainly cheaper to hold on.

Main question is whether you get bored of it!

I'm in exactly the same position. Had a few minor bills outside warranty since I finished the additional 4th year of warranty. But still cheaper than paying for the warranty. Will probably stay with main dealer for 6 year service (had the 5 year £500 service plan) if they can do it at a reasonable price.

Love the car, although was never 100% happy with the basic sound system. So, to stop me getting bored with the car, I upgraded the sound system myself so no need to change now for a few years!

Had mine for 2.5yrs with a 5yr service plan. I intend to keep it past the 5yr plan, and still probably use the main dealer, but you cut your cloth to suit your budget.
I'd have no issues going to a local independent, but it's not so local

Let us know how you get on with that! AFAIK, the 6th one is the cambelt aux chain biggie....I doubt very much whether either of my local main dealers will be even close to the independent fellas for that one
Could be wrong.....

On the upgrade topic: when mine got to 3 years I added the Polestar upgrade....transformed the performance, & like you, left me no need to change!
