Default 2009 XC60 tailgate water ingress

Hi everyone

I appear to be collecting water. Having investigated it previously I found that it was coming from the high level brake light.

I managed to get some new seals from my local dealer and am going to be ordering a new high level brake light too.

It is driving me crazy as quite a few LEDs have stopped working and it is always full of water. Really let's the car down.. I wonder if it has been over tightened and cracked maybe?

So has anyone experienced problems with water ingress in the boot? Any other spots worth checking? It is a manual tailgate version.

Really appreciate any advice

Dave

Do you have a sunroof? Could be a combination of your high level brake light and a blocked sunroof drainage pipe.

I had a problem on mine. The water was getting in around the tailgate hinges.

I found it by taking off the upper trim and you could see where the water was running down.

Resealed by the dealer under warranty and hs been fine for the last 4 years

No, no sunroof (would have loved one). It does seem to be isolated to the boot area

I haven't noticed any water ingress in the boot but having read the posts on this thread I will pay a bit more attention to the points aired. The high level brake light in my 2010 XC60 appears to have moisture in it. Upon closer inspection it could be cracked. How do I remove it to investigate further. Can this be done from the outside of the vehicle?

Hi, I have previously removed mine. There are 3 bolts. With the tailgate open look along the top edge of the boot. There are 3 rubber grommets the bolts are under there. Removing those will allow it to be pulled out. My local dealer want £65 for a new one. A 1/4 stubby ratchet will make it an easier job👍 iirc it was an 8 or 10mm socket.
