Default Trying to buy a 240 estate.

Hi All,
Not really a rant but can someone explain to me just why it seems to be so hard to find a suitable 240 estate to purchase.

I have answered a couple of adds for 240's for sale in the 200 series cars for sale and asked a few questions but never get a reply.

It seems to be mainly 'guest' adds and I am wondering is it because the person putting the add in, is covering all places they can think of, the car is then sold and they don't bother to 'post' that fact, or they forget that they have posted the add and don't return to the site to check for replies.

I know that I am looking for a cheap car before the 'classic brigade' discover what good cars they are, my present volvo is a 1978 244DL which cost £150 with a full years MOT and only needed a new tyre for this years MOT, but someone out there must know of an estate preferably with an MOT and in excellent nick and cheap.

I need an estate to tow my hillclimb and sprint kit car to events and the saloon does the job but I need more room.

Although I live in Northern Ireland I am prepared to travel to any part of the UK for the right vehicle. These cheap flights are great but the ferry home can bu--er up the costings.

Cheers.

You have probably done this already but I went onto the Northern Ireland Assemby website and got a random NI postcode which I then used in www.autotrader.co.uk in a search for Volvo 240. The url forumla is as follows

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/WWW...39&search.y=13

That lead me to a very nice 240 estate for 750 pounds somewhere in Northern Ireland. If you change miles=60 to miles=2000 you are doing a national search and there are many cars in there.

In response to your point about users not replying, I have asked Bob (webadmin) to alter the log-in procedure for sales and wants. Theory now is that even if someone doesn't return to the forum to check their ads, you are able to email them direct.

Hi George,

This vehicle has 191,000 odd miles, MOT'd untill Nov 03, a rusty tailgate, a dodgy looking fiberglass patch on the top of the nearside sill under the door bottom and the screen has a large crack in it going sideways from the rear view mirror area towards the drivers viewing point. The fuel gauge doesn't work and the vehicle pulls to the off side.

The vendor has not had the vehicle long, 5 previous owners on the log book and could not find any old MOT's or bills for service work done in the past.

He is asking £750 for it but I offered £400. He was willing to drop to £500 but it has to many problems, very high mileage and no known history. I am all right working with carbs but fuel injection is another matter.

I wasn't prepared to take the vehicle on at that price, the screen is the dearest part to replace and I don't need just at the moment a vehicle to have to work at.

I am sure with a bit more looking I will find the vehicle for me.

Cheers.
