Did anyone else see the 10 min 'report' into radar detectors on the BBC last night in thw above mentioned program?

The basis of the report was that radar guns should be made illegal because thay allow illegal street races to take place. Whilst I agree that street races should be stopped, how the hell are speed cameras going to do that? And what do these people do, set up a run with cameras so the people racing have sto slow down for the camera then speed back up again? Surely if you are going to race a course you know it before hand and know where the cameras are anyway!

Also set out to scare us into slowing down by showing what happens when you have to take evasive action at 55mph - with a guy that clearly can't drive, when the policeman nearly cleared me up in nothhampton in the summer I was going more than 55mph and didn't end up facing the other way. Plus of course 55mph. Stateing that if he had been on a motorway he would have been facing the oncoming traffic as he did a 180. Err how is a camera going top that, the last time I checked the limit on a motorway was 70mph.........

Also showing the effects of the street racing, a young girl was killed. Whilst I have the upmost sympathy for the mother, trying to portray this sweet an innocent girl who was killed through no fault of her own due to speed was a bad idea. She was IN a street race when it happened, without seatbelts, and was hit by another car after being thrown out of the window. And radar guns are to blame for this? She would not have been in the car if there had been a ban on radar guns? She would have had a seatbelt on if there was a ban on radar guns? Of course not.

Isn't it about time there was some real journalism on cars, not pro car, not anti car but some actual investigative journalism, rather than the dumbing down of britain sensationalism, shock, horror journalism that the BBC seems to be going in for these days?

Sorry, but that really annoyed me! Rant over.

Stu

Hi Stu,
The world of course is going mad....mad....mad.
In Northampton they are currently building a pedestrian crossing on a main feeder road to the A45 dual ccarriageway. The road in question was originally designed to be dual carriageway , bridges designed etc. but of course cash ran out. The road overloads at times of the day backing up onto the dual carriageway and any exit from out estate is difficult at the best of times when traffic flows. Now a pedestrian crossing with lights is being fitted. Nothing unusual about this as the whole of Northamptonis now controlled by people who press buttons as if they are in the Science Museum. What is crazy is that the crossing is built within yards of a pedestrian overpass. The poor pedestrians are not using it so the motorist has to suffer. Instead of directing pedestrians towards the overpass and away from fast traffic it will encourage them to use the crossing and not the overpass. Secondly our estate was consigned to 20mph .
This was to discourage rat running amongst other things. Now traffic will be encouraged to bypass the jam by going through the estate once again and joining the flow of traffic downwind of the lights. Funny how when the school asked for a path to prevent children walking in the road the familiar excuse was that there was no cash!!!!
World gne mad!!!! Nige
