03 C70 Auto Transmissions issues
Hi there.
Just bought a 03 C70 with gearbox issues. Theoretically it could be used as it is for pottering around town but I'd like to fix it. Same caveat as usual with these cars. Spending money quickly leads to the point where you are spending more than the car is worth. Having read the millions of pages of stuff on transmissions I'm inclined to think the problem with this car is speed sensors on the gearbox. I think it has two and I read that you can have problems with the harness that connects to them as well. I believe the fault codes for the warning lights translate to 'vehicle speed sensor' So you can reset the lights and it will drive for varying lengths of time without the lights coming on. But not that long and not at higher speeds. I notice them coming on most at about 35 to 40 mph. Once the lights are on it will stop changing gear properly. I noticed when driving home on the motorway that the lights would stop it changing up and cause it to rev harder than it should for cruising speed. So to make the drive home more comfortable I reset the lights off the motorway at the slip-road and then got it into 4th gear before the lights came back on. Don't think it will change as high as 5th. I tried resetting the lights while driving... it didn't like that at all. Big jolt from the gearbox. Safe to say I only tried that once... So anyone seen this pattern of symptoms before and cured it by replacing the sensors and small section of harness that connects them? Also, any idea where the sensors are? The light on the right is the engine warning light. lights.jpg |

You’re probably best asking the question in the P1 section (this is the P2 bit). https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=16

Also, should there be illumination for the gearbox selector? I couldn't see which gear I was selecting when driving it last night. Had to use the 'counting the clicks' method to work out where reverse or drive were.
