Default B20 B Exhaust System Replacement

Based on a previous thread i started (and got great answers on so thanks) the following came up about replacing my exhaust manifold and system;

"Your car is with the worst inlet manifold volvo ever build. Swap it, use one without exhaust butterfly"

"Kay has it right about the Dual-Throttle Manifold...its the one to loose and replace when you have an opportunity"

But after searching, who actually supplies upgrade replacements?

Simmons?
Classicswede?
Brookhouse?

I would prefer a stainless Steel Sports exhaust system from the manifold backwards, but the manifold is confusing me.

Cheers!

Ed

Simmons and Brookhouse do tubular manifolds or you can look for a second hand cast manifold. You can make a 4-2 exhaust manifold out of the joint cast inlet and exhaust manifolds, see my thread, but you will also need to source an alloy inlet if you go this route. It all depends on how much you want to spend and what goals you are going for.

If you happen to be on Facebook and look on the Volvo Amazon page, look up Gavin Ascott and get in touch with him. He's likely to have one for you

Ed;

Exhaust systems from the manifold back are made by a number of producers, in versions from stock, in mild steel to performance in stainless...these should not be difficult to locate, after you decide which way to go... If you decide on factory stock, you can go with older 4 into 1, or to later, much better performing and preferable 4 into 2 into 1...both would have to be procured from parts donors cars (OR in your case, could be cut away from that dual throttle manifold...a bit of work, but a viable option when it is essentially already on-hand, it just needs to be "harvested"!). The best performing tubular header option doesn't need a factory manifold as it starts right at the Cyl head, but it should be paired with a performance (2") system, else its advantages are not being taken advantage of and wasted. SS systems are nice if you can justify the initial cost.

Intake manifold options are obviously based on number and type of carbs, but the aluminum factory ones (separate from exhaust manifold) are a good option. These have less mixture preheating so maximize cool breathing for best performance...also minimize post shut-off heatsoak and the associated poor (hot)starting.

Note: Stepped washers may be required when changing Intake and Exhaust manifolds, as flange width may vary between the two. (See link)

Hope that helps!
