Well, my reason would have to be filed under: Some other reason that we'd never guess - as per the OP's original classification.
When I was a teenager the vet who came to castrate the calves on the farm, drove a beautiful powder blue Amazon saloon. He used to extol the virtues of the brand and at that time - late 60's - was so much better quality than the offerings of BMC/BL, Rootes, Vauxhall etc. I set my heart on a Volvo. At 18 I bought a 145S and was not disappointed in the least. When I started working on the car myself I soon realised how well made they were and completely fell in love with the brand. 44 years later, I have been a continuous Volvo owner ever since.

I had an idiot in a Land Rover crash into my Mazda 2. Needless to say it was completely written off. I had to choose something to keep my family safe!

Because GM screwed up Saabs and killed the brand. So next best thing is a Volvo - I hope.

Initially bought after an accident, test drove one seemed comfy.
10 years later, third volvo, i find other brands have dull interiors, no idea what's going on i Germany bit currently plastic circles with odd colours on them seems all the rage? The seats and safety do it for me now, just haven't driven or been a passenger in a car as comfy as a volvo, our second car is currently a Nissan, and yes its a good car, but i cant drive it any kind of distance without complaining, the volvo on the other hand, pure comfort l day 😁 |

Huge load bay, reliability, crash safety, DIY-ability, cheapness, classlessness.
Without the huge (and unique) flat load bay on my 940 it might as well be any other brand. Modifiable turbo power is just a bonus.

It’s a bit of a tale but:
My first job was working for a local farmer and haulier and he always ran Volvos. Shortly after I started he was driving into town one night in his new 245, when he hit a loaded coal lorry that was reversing into a narrow gateway. The impact was high enough to push the front axle of the truck out from under it and the car ended up with the front end of the truck sitting on the roof. He opened the door and climbed out of the car with nothing more than a cut forehead and bruised ribs; the police could not believe that he had not been killed. That stayed with me and when we started a family, I bought a Volvo and have always had at least one ever since; 35 years so far; we presently have numbers 8 and 9, while my son and his wife have one each.

Bought mine (2002 v70 d5) cause i I could get the kids clobber in the boot and it was only £900 with most of the major jobs done, but needed a fuel pump. That was 4 years ago and it’s been reliable ever since. It’s just had the belts changed and will need a couple of suspension bushes this year.

I bought mine as the D5 engine seems reliable and Volvo have good safety features.
Worked at a garage for the last 11 years, you get to know whats reliable and whats not.
