Drivers window stuck
I had this issue a few years ago and it resolved itself after a day or two. But it's been two weeks now.
Drivers window is stuck in the up position. There is power to the switch control in the armrest ... all four switches working perfectly and each window connection is working as well. I can hear a click from the motor when I use the switch, but window won't budge. Any ideas? ... oh it's an '89, 240 Last edited by speedyG50; Jan 30th, 2018 at 17:48. |

Could be the motor or dodgy switch that works up and not down. Does the motor click on up as well as down when switch pressed? If so sounds like switch is working if you can hear the motor click.
Remove drivers switch pack and plug in the passenger switch into the loom for the drivers window and see if it now works. Sounds as if it is if clicking but confirm. I would then remove the door card and see if the window motor cross supports are still both connected to the window glass channel and the motor bolts are fully tight. Use the switch to see what happens. If still not working then could be the window motor is dead. Also make sure when it's going down its going into the channel guides in the door. My window wouldn't go down level suddenly and was tilting the glass down on one side and it was out of the glass guide and the window motor bolts very loose as well as a clip on the motor scissors fell off! Other than that, no idea! James Last edited by volvo always; Jan 30th, 2018 at 17:27. |

I've got a 1989 240 GL Estate.
This may not be revelent to a 240, but this problem baffled me for some time. No power windows, no movement, mostly down of course (only front windows on this model). Having checked all the obvious I took the Volvo to a Auto Electrian. he found a bad connection to the gear box which swiches the reverse light?. OK, good for a few weeks. Failure again! But there's the clue. Took the gearstick boot off and there, the cable which goes over the sharp edge of the floor to outside, had chaffed through. Carefully insulated and no problem for years. As I have power to the switch and the motor, I am guessing it's the regulator and the window itself has got jammed in the channel somehow ... .
I need to get the window down. Once it's down, I can diagnose and resolve it. Last edited by speedyG50; Jan 30th, 2018 at 21:03. |

sorted .... loosened off the four bolts which hold the regulator to the door.... and the locking nut. Jiggled the regulator around a bit and bingo. Think the locking nut was the issue, which has now been reset.
