Default 244 and 240 differences?

I may seem a bit of an idiot but I’ve always wondered what’s the difference between a 240 and 244. I’m asking this as I grandad had one from 1986 to 1997 in blue with a blue interior. Unfortunately it got write off in a collision with a motorcycle, and inevitably got scrapped.
Thanks

A 244 was a 200 series, 4 cylinder, 4 door saloon.
A 245 was a 200 series, 4 cylinder, 5 door estate.

A 240 was the later rebranded and simplified version to incorporate both body styles into one name of "240".

And 242 was a 2 door

240 covers all the option. The type number stayed 242/244/245 even after the badge changed to just 240 for all door options

Or in simple terms, the only difference is the badge. 240/244 are the same car.

265 V6 Estate as well, 262c V6 2 door coupe and in North America 262 a 2 door with standard roof line.

Would love to know how many, if any of these rare models are still around!

Don’t think I have seen a 265.

Not quite. A 244 can only be a saloon, a 240 can be a saloon or an estate.

Dan - there are a few of both around. I sold my 264 and 265 to an enthusiast in Wales a couple of years back after I streamlined my interests. Then there is the NEC-show exhibitor 265 based on the south coast....
Another friend has a 265 too, but I haven't seen that yet, and there are several 262s on the show circuit: you really should get out more!!!

Don't forget that mad 263 fastback concept that's now in the museum. I'd love one of those.
