T4 occasional lumpy running
I am having an intermitant running problem on my '98 S40 T4 which has covered 82k
Car will feel like it is holding back and when idling fluctuates between 200 rpm and 900rpm. Will do this for approx 1 minute then runs fine again. Only happens occasionally, probably a couple of times this month and mainly only after starting on a warm engine although happened about a minute after starting from cold the other day. I thought it could possibly be the fuel pump but noticed a sticker on it with the date 2003 so am assuming it has been changed. Also fuel level doesn't seem to effect whether it happens or not (has just under half a tank when it last happened). The engine check light is not on. Any ideas? |

Does it feel like fuel starvation? It could be the fuel pressure regulator. This is the usual suspect when the car is slow to start.
As a first step you should clean the idle air control valve and throttle housing.
