Lightbulb Is this engine mount had it?

Hi. I have a bad noise from gearbox and engine under load. There is a bad metal Mark on the top mount. Is it past it? Sorry it’s a 2.4d s60 auto 120.000 miles thanks

Hard to tell from the photo but probably.
There is also a another mount between the gearbox and engine that often goes wrong, would be worth replacing that too.
Thankfully both are very easy to replace.

Please give mileage and other descriptive details in posts. It helps.
I had to look at your public profile to see you have a 2006.
Seems worn to me but the diesel top mount might be of different design.

If diesels have the lower engine/transmission-to-frame mount (sometimes called a dog bone) like the petrol models have, check it. One went on a family member's car at it made more than it's share of metallic noise.

The top mount should be stiff, see how much play is in it, that, the lower torque mount and don't forget to check the driveshaft bolts, all three can cause under load knock, I only know cause I recently had this issue myself.

An easy way to check would be to get someone to sit in the car & get them to engage the gears whilst the car is still stationary (move the gear lever whilst holding their foot on the brake). Whilst someone is doing that, you look at the part you think may have play to see if it moves too much whist your buddy is engaging the gears. If the mount is badly worn, you'll see the excessive movement fairly easily whilst your buddy is engaging the gears. Also, look for cracks or perished rubber. If you see its torn, then it needs to be replaced.

Have a look at the gearbox mount too, which is underneath the car. Again, it'll be easier if you have someone to engage the gears whilst you have a look underneath. Make sure the car is safely supported on ramps and/or jacks & axel stands before going underneath though... Safety first. If the transmission mount is worn, you'll see the movement easily & may even hear a clunk whilst the gears are being engaged.

This video shows the transmission mount (5 minutes 20 seconds onwards). It also shows the other mounts that you may be able to inspect too.

I hope this helps.
