Collected new S90 today. Usual nonsense with P SIM set up. It worked initially after an hour's faffing but on restart to drive home there was no globe.

Vodafone and Volvo have clearly screwed this up so I will probably buy a Three SIM or use phone/Bluetooth as before, which was totally reliable (not that I really need the car to be connected other than for RTTI).

There are contradictory comments on here about setting up a Three card. Some folks say you literally insert it and it works (globe appears and the car is the hotspot). Others refer to a registration process.

I would be ever so grateful for some advice that just works.

See the pdf halfway down this thread. This has worked for me twice now having twice had new cars without the SIM card being set up..!!!

I appreciate the advice; thank you very much.

Thing is, the sales guy was using exactly this document.

I may try again over the weekend but may lose the will because I don't really need it.

I just like things that work, and this really doesn't as a product.

It took a number of go’s to get mine to work. The main thing was once the setup of the sim was done I had to swap onto my mobile phone as a hot spot, and then switch back onto the car modem, to get the globe symbol

Tony.
The easiest & cheapest solution is to purchase a PAYG Sim like this one on Amazon. You basically are buying a Sim that comes “preloaded” with 24GB of data for only £36 that will run out either after 24 months from 1st use or when you have used the 24GB - when you throw it away & buy a new one. There is no activation, no account code to setup, no unlocking, you just put it in the cars Sim holder and that’s it.
I am now on my 3rd one in about 4 yrs.

Simon

That is exactly what I'm after. Thank you so much.

We're in Shrewsbury today on what might be our last trip out for a bit, according to this morning's news headlines. Would buy you a pint but probably not allowed or practical!

Tony.
Glad that helped you.
Pubs in Shrewsbury are open and generally Ok, but it’s a case of using one’s own common sense and making you own decisions.
Cheers 🍻

Simon

Pleased to announce that my Three card arrived this morning, inserted it in the car (making sure the arrows line up on the holder), ticked the Car Modem Internet box in communication settings and the globe appeared within a minute. Simples.

Begs the question as to why Volvo cannot manage to arrange the same instead of imposing three pages of detailed instructions that often don't work anyway. As someone else suggested on here, it must have something to do with the details of their deal with Vodafone, probably to do with personal data collection. Am v suspicious.

But thanks again and hope you avoided the major downpour Saturday morning in your area.

Tony

I read somewhere that the SIM provided by Volvo was a no cost to them deal with Vodaphone. Vodaphone must have their reasons. How much do Vodaphone charge to renew the card? Bet it's cheaper with another provider.

And I agree that the initial setup is a right faff. Took me a week to get it sorted.
