Factory reset
I am just about to change my car so have performed a factory reset on Sensus as recommended on the Volvo website. However, now the satnav is showing Sweden instead of UK. Do I need to change anything or have the maps been deleted?

Yep - change the sensus display and driver display to radio not map, and then walk quickly to your new vehicle not looking back...

Ahahahahah 😂 What Director said 😂 But on a more serious note - sure, the maps are gone.

No, the maps aren't deleted. The factory reset removes the car's existing GPS fix and the default first fix position is Gothenburg because, well, Volvo.
Eventually it'll get a fix (can take up to 20 minutes) and the position will show correctly once again. |

I'm quite sure maps fall under files- and as such - they are deleted by what Volvo refers to a "factory reset" - to be distinguished from a "personal settings reset" which resets all personalized settings only.
"Two types of reset There are two different types of resets for settings in the settings menu: Factory reset - clears all data and files and resets all settings to their default values. Reset Personal Settings - clears personal data and resets personal settings to their default values." https://www.volvocars.com/uk/support...centre-display

I'm certain the maps are not considered "files" as part of this reset. Put it this way: if the maps were deleted, how is it able to show Sweden?

Fursty, there's the base map, the one that comes factory preloaded, based on your location/preference. For eg, my car has "European map, code A00522" listed in the vehicle specification. This map however does not contain road network details and/or updates - it is just a base map. If I were to hit factory reset all but this base map would be gone.
Put it this way - you cannot add any other files to Sensus but maps. So what other "files" would the manual be referring to?

I can now confirm that the maps were NOT deleted. As Fursty Ferret said it reset the GPS position and took quite a while to regain it, at which point I'd already thought they were gone. When I got the car out of the garage the next day all was well again
Good job too as the guy who collected the car to return it at the end of the lease had to see the satnav working! I tried the "Personal Details" reset first but all the addresses were still in the nav which is why I did the full reset. |
