Dashboard Illumination
On a couple of occasions the dashboard illumination has went up to full brightness on the 2 LCD displays in the dashboard within the speedometer and rev counter. The dial to change the illumination has no effect on the level, but on both occasions within the span of the drive, it returned to normal, with the dial having an effect again.
The time of day was different on both occasions, (as I know darkness can have an effect) afternoon and sunrise. The car is a 2011 V60. It's obviously not a big issue, but wondered if anyone has experienced this, or thoughts on what the underlying cause might be in case it's sign of something else going on ? There is an ambient light sensor on or near the windscreen, could anything be obscuring or shading it?....... Either around the alarm light or the sensors by the rearview mirror. I think!

Not really. I don't have anything on the dashboard or windscreen. It's possible a bit of debris of some description got on the windscreen in front of the sensor, and worked its way loose again, but it seems it odd it happened twice it the course of a few days.

If I remember correctly, from another thread, the sensor is in the red bubble in the center of the dash which also contains the alarm led.
Try covering it to see if it has any effect?

Thanks for your suggestions guys, but thinking about this, and correct me if I'm wrong, but, I don't think it can be a physical blockage with the sensor for 2 reasons.
1. If the sensor was blocked, it would think it was dark, and therefore decrease the brightness of the display, not increase it as it has been doing ? 2. Adjustment should still be possible, whether the sensor think it's light or dark, turning the wheel had no effect at all. I might have trouble experimenting at the minute as I'm increasingly driving in the dark. Last edited by Rocinante; Oct 29th, 2020 at 14:24. |

Appreciate this is not the XC70 area but I've had this exact issue with my car on a few occasions. Generally clears itself next time car is used, but no idea what causes it. It is annoying at night to have the full glare of the display and not be able to dim it.

I believe that I now have additional buttons lit up, after I was flashed by my dashboard, but I wouldn't swear by it.
I don't think the boot and fuel cap buttons used to be illuminated, and possibly the 'little seated man' for directing the airflow either. All are now illuminated, I would have definitely put it down to my imagination but on a completely separate thread I found this. "The boot and fuel cap buttons are not illuminated...sure you will get used to which ones which but be good if they were back lit like most other buttons" Post 99 & 100 https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...wipers&page=10 Are these buttons lit up in your V60 ? |
