Default Intermittent Gearbox Fault V70R

I’m in the midst of having an Automatic V70R tuned and we have a long standing fault, which we believe is linked, but cannot source!

2004 Auto on the 5 speed unit. Gearbox was replaced as it was mechanically stuffed (Valve body worn) and we couldn’t get it to behave despite latest software flash, new B4 Servo cover and new fluids. A known good replacement went in and so far so good mechanically. However, on a normal drive, as soon as you make a right turn in the car the gearbox hangs in what
feels like neutral and the chassis settings service required light comes up on dash. VIDA shows NO such fault recorded. It only appears on dash with Amber
Warning and there is no associated transmission fault.

An auto electrician has looked at the car for an electrical drain and not found anything. We believe there is a wire fouling somewhere perhaps but just wanted to throw it out to the forum and see if anyone has had issues similar to this.....

Also how does the transmission and the adaptive damping interact? We think it’s a linked issue.......

Thanks in advance

Davey

Remove both front wheels and inspect wires to shocks also insure the sensor attached to shock is fitted correctly and at correct angle.
Possibly disturbed when it had the gearbox change , Also insure all the plugs as fitted correctly.

Hi.
Believe it or not but the transmission hanging or actually loosing drive for a moment when turning (roundabouts was a favourite) was due to the gearbox oil level being too low.
Folk didn`t know to check the level hot and with engine running.
Could it just be that your seeing the "Amber" due to momentary loss of drive ?
I know it sounds daft but....

Thanks. I did suggest this but it has had the exact same fault across both boxes. I will definitely get another check on the levels though just to rule it out 👍

Have you had a look in the abs system for the fault code when it occurs? Sounds like a kick in from the traction system.
How's the steering wheel sitting and are all tyre profiles identical?
Start simple checks first.
If there is a message flashing some module is setting it. Have you any equipment to scan when the warning is illuminated?

I have the same fault ( called flaring ) on my v70 2.4 n/a 2002 but it is much less severe, it only happens sometimes when accelerating around a tight right-hand turn.
However, I get no warning lights on my dash or VIDA messages.
I get around this by gentle use of the throttle around these turns, but it sounds like your gearbox is too bad to do this.
The gearbox oil level is correct in my car and the gearbox type is an Aisin aw55-50.

We’ve been out datalogging for mapping purposes with VIDA hooked up live and the dash warning for Chassis Settings Service Required does not show up on VIDA.

The gearbox was not flaring on the original car it was fitted to, only mine. I had a decent amount of seat time in the car to know it was good, hence buying it. We’ll triple check fluids as that’s one thing that has changed since
going into my car. We did not transfer the ECU for the gearbox with the gearbox, that said my ECU has the latest software on it and Volvo in Swindon found no faults on when my original ECU when box was checked for shunting/flaring.

I did also have the exact same issue turning right with the original gearbox, although
that box was definitely fubar mechanically.

Do you have any fault codes in Vida for any module and if so, which codes exactly?

When you say vida is hooked up but no fault found, are you scanning just the engine and gearbox or have you been doing a full scan of the car message present?
I wouldn't expect the gearbox to be sending a chassis message to the cluster but something has to be.
When you scan the full car cold then with the message present are any modules missing?
