Default Any tips to remove fuel filter

I'm after any tips to remove the fuel filter from a model year 2001 V70 petrol.

As far as I know it's the same filter set-up across all models, the filter sits under the car just in front of the fuel tank.

I get the idea, press the release buttons on the sides of the connectors either side of the filter. The front one comes off but the rear is refusing. As the connector and pipe are plastic I'm a bit nervous about too much force.

Any tips or suggestions on how to help the job along please?

If it comes to it and something gives, ie I break it, how easy is it to replace the pipe between the tank and filter. I can see from the parts diagram that the pipe has a similar press to release connector on the fuel pump end but does it have any fixings around the tank that can't be got at without dropping the tank?

Hi.
Some pipes have a collar that is pushed back as the connector is pulled from the filter spigot. If you have the type with "depress" buttons on both pipes then you`re doing it right but the connector is probably jammed up with road dirt.
Blast it with some sort of penetrating fluid give it a wiggle and a twist , then another blast and so on `til it frees up.

1) Yes to what VOLVOBOY said.

2) This is DEFINITELY a job where you "gotta show it who's boss" sometimes.

3) With buttons depressed try shoving the elements together before pulling apart. That'll be part of "working it free". Jiggling can help.

4) FYI: I always apply a THIN rub of silicone grease to the new filter's nipples. I believe it can help the old sealing rings, possibly avoiding breaking them.

5) They make repair kits for filter lines which include two 18" sections of fuel line with a "press-to-release" fitting (same as we got) at one end. The kit includes ferrel compression fittings for the plain ends. The kit is so complete you CAN cut the fuel line a foot either side of the old filter and replace it all without even touching the old filter.
These kits are not expensive and they work but I'd ALWAYS want to free up and replace any old filter the "right way". However, if this maintenance job "goes South", you have a course of action which doesn't involve accessing or dropping the tank.

6 edit) You have removed any covering and hold down strap first, yes? It helps to be able to get your hand on the filter.
