S40 with and boot lock problem in Spain
Hi to all,
I have today at last joined this community as a Volvo owner, I have to say long overdue on my part. I have a Volvo S40 2006 D20, in fact it used to be my company car which I then bought from them after two years, so in its early days it worked very hard. Although I work for a British finance house I work for them in their southern Spanish office so the car was bought here at a main dealer in Marbella. It now has 140,000 KM on the clock so you can see what I meant when I said it used to work hard, now it just a local run around doing less than 8000 KM a year. The car has proved to de a great work horse over the years with very little problems, but this week it has developed a really annoying and frustrating electronic problem which is proving very hard find to solve. Intermittently when using the key fob central unlock button all the doors respond and unlock, but the boot stays locked. I have tried many thing to understand where the problem is, I used the glove compartment key on the glove compartment as I read that it has an extra security when this key operates it has an override locking option on the boot lock as well, but it made no difference. The frustrating thing about the fault is that some times it works OK and normal other times the boot stays firmly locked or even more annoying sometimes it opens OK with the release button in the number plate light cluster, but you close it again you find it won't open again no matter how many time you press the lock release button which makes no sound of action. Does anybody have any ideas as to what the problem might be and what the solution might also be? The car has been well maintained with all scheduled service carried out by the local Volvo main dealer. I was wondering if it might be to do with the cars electronic brain that might have developed a software fault? All thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated-- Many thanks Joego |

It sounds to me like the boot lock solenoid/actuator is sticking. It's most likely you will have to replace the complete unit I would imagine.
