Hi Gallen76,

I’ve been gnawing my arms off since your first post as I seem to have a strange affliction for a 145, so I have to break cover.

I may very well be interested in your 145, and coincidentally I’m only just up the road in Suffolk.

Perhaps we could arrange a meet to view, please email me on stevemountain@btinternet.com

Cheers
Steve

Apologies, I forgot to mention, on looking at the 2009 MOT comments it mentions power steering component leak??

Did the 140,series not have power steering from factory, I appreciate it could have been retrofitted of course.

Cheers
Steve

As I recall, Steve, the 144 / 5 were offered innocent of power steering. It was heavy, but with the large steering wheel and narrow tyres, not overly so in normal driving. I believe that the 164, there was never a 'factory' 165, had P/S as standard and it may have been an option on the 140s. I am aware that some owners may have retro fitted a 164 system to a 14X.

Regards, John.

Hi John,
Many thanks, I didn’t think they came out of the factory with PS.

Most likely is tester admin error.

It is a rather natty car though, my missus never needs to know about this one, although talking of ‘names’ this one must be Coleman or Delia take your choice😀😀

Cheers

Hi Steve. I'm not sure on the power steering. Personally I don't think it has it, but it's quite light really (as mentioned, big steering wheel and small tyres!)

I'll drop you an email - viewing welcome

In 1976, I bought my first Volvo, mainly to accommodate the Old English sheepdog fashion accessory my wife insisted we have. It was a 1971 J reg but it didn't have the opening rear windows shown here. Bought from the Volvo main dealer in Maidstone, it cost £1795. It was badged an E, or an S but the garage had put a new standard engine in and converted the auto choke to manual and zeroed the mileometer at the same time. I can't remember why it needed a new engine after only four years. Very solid car and was totally reliable. Sold it to my next door neighbour eventually and bought an S reg 245DL from the main dealer in Tonbridge. That cost about £4500 I think.

If I hadn't recently bought my 940 estate, I would have been tempted by yours.

145 didn't have power steering from the factory. 164 did - to take account of the heavier engine and the more luxurious spec.

Never seen a UK 140 with power steering but it was a option and have seen US cars with it

164 of 69/70 would not have have had power steering but 71 onwards power steering is standard.

MOT testers are often not the brightest and put wrong descriptions in. Most likely a leak of the steering box was noted but wrongly described
