Question Help XC60 Steel Grille - Replacing Plastic Ceiling Mounts

Hi - I bought a Steel Grille for my XC60 thinking it would be a breeze to fit. Turns out you need to swap out the plastic ceiling mounts for the supplied steel ones. The instructions here say "Before installing the steel grid, the existing plastic ceiling mounting consoles must be replaced with steel consoles. Volvo recommends that the ceiling consoles are only replaced by an authorized Volvo workshop or retailer."

Has anybody done these themselves?

If you just mean the plastic covers on the mounting points on the ceiling, on my last xc90, they just fell out after a while from continued use of the cargo net, so there’s no rocket science to what’s holding them in. Underneath them are the welded connection points that the lugs of the net fit into. I’m guessing this is what the fixed guard attaches to?

Perseverance is needed, had the same issue a couple of weeks ago, gentle lever them out they do let go in the end. Both came out and will fit back in ok should I wish to.

Default Replacing Plastic Ceiling Mounts

I also own a 2020 Volvo XC60. Before you begin, you need to replace the existing plastic ceiling fasteners with steel ones. The plastic is secured to the ceiling with 4 pins. First, pull firmly towards you from underneath the plate, and then lift the top to detach it. Don't be afraid to pull, as nothing will go wrong. You won't need the plastic plate afterwards because an iron plate will be placed on it with a bolt.

Default Rear door load sill protection plate

I am thinking of fitting an after market rear bumper protection plate on MY21 XC60. Anyone had experience of this and can you recommend a plate. I have noticed the VOLVO one seems to be brush stainless steel and I would prefer a chrome fitment to match the other chrome fittings on the rear i.e. exhaust and reflector surrounds. Cheers Roy
