Default Bypass relay??

I've bought a caravan and now I need to fit a towbar, found a towbar kit on fleabay for reasonable price but i'm told that I also need a 7way bypass relay? What is it and why do I need it?

I think it's something to do with the bulb failure device I have just fitted a towbar on my 98 V70 & I didn't use on & everything works fine can't say if you would be so lucky anyway they normally do them at Towsure but they are out of stock at the moment hope this helps

Thanks Jim, however your about 4 days too late ,lol. Anyway I enquired with about 5 different suppliers and they all told me the same, that on the S60 you have to fit a bypass relay or you risk damaging the ecu and dim modules. Basically the bypass takes the load off the the lamp harness and was really quite easy to fit. Basically you connect the seven core cable from the bypass to the rear light harness then you connect your 12N socket to the bypass and run a switched 12v supply to the bypass. ( of course this bit is easy given the rear fuse box location) Its just a matter of doing twice the connecting that you would normally do. Anyways its all fitted and working as it should. I paid £124 all in for the complete kit ,towbar, ball, socket and bypass inc next day delivery which I thought was pretty good considering a local towbar fitter wanted £260. All in all it took less than an hour and half to fit.
